For me, celebrating 40 years of excellence means that there are so many amazing and dedicated people in the CSU that want to continue to provide valuable resources to our students. EOP and its supporters believe in the traditions that were created and after 40 years, still strive to empower and support our students.

I see EOP continuing to make a difference over the next 40 years. I see students wanting to give back to their communities, parents and families advocating for EOP, and administrators continuing to provide support and resources to our students. I envision more people wanting to contribute EOP and being proud to be affiliated with a valuable program.

I am a product of EOP and there is no way I would have graduated from CSU Northridge and go on to attain my Doctorate from Stanford University without this program. This celebration marks a full circle moment for me because as Director, I can now help other first generation youth achieve their dream.

Our middle name is OPPORTUNITY and we know that ACCESS without SUPPORT is not OPPORTUNITY. We will continue to advocate for and build strong programs to help students be successful.

Recognizing our 40 years of achievement provides us an opportunity to pause and reflect upon the gains we've made since our program's inception. Our State, our universities, our classrooms, our lives - all are strengthened through the inclusion of diverse perspectives and knowledge.

California trends in high school graduation, college entrance, and 4-year degree attainment clearly indicate there is a lot of work yet to do. Through EOP, we will continue to provide access to excellence for our students, who subsequently become our greatest ambassadors for what is possible through higher education. Through our collective effort and our students' success, a momentum grows and change happens.

The significance of the Educational Opportunity Program 's 40th Anniversary is a testimony and tribute to the civil rights movement and its empowerment of people through education. Our presence in any campus is a political statement because we are the voice for first generation college students. EOP equals student advocacy.

The EOP struggle is not over! With the faltering economy, programs like EOP will be at risk. We must continue to fight to keep our funding and to show the economic and social benefits of EOP.

For over 40 years, EOP has provided access to higher education and an opportunity for a better life for tens of thousands of first-generation, underrepresented students. Celebrating 40 years of EOP’s excellence in the CSU provides us an opportunity to recognize the impact that this program has made in transforming the lives of many people who now play critical roles in our society in multiple capacities.

All of us have a responsibility to ensure that EOP continues to provide educational opportunities to the thousands of deserving students who aspire to attend and graduate from college over the next 40 years and beyond. EOP will continue serve as a vital component of the CSU system.

Celebrating 40 years of excellence represents 14, 600 days of providing educational opportunities to students who would not have otherwise had the wonderful opportunity to fulfill their goals and dreams of a higher education. I am excited and proud of all the accomplishments EOP has made in the State of California and feel empowered to do even more to promote excellence among our students and on our respective campuses.

I envision an ongoing stream of excellence, program innovation, and invigoration which will set a tone of achievement and success among EOP students!

The 40-year celebration reflects the commitment and passion of dedicated staff who have provided invaluable support services to historically underserved students. The success of our program is demonstrated by our retention rates and the fact that many of our students go on to graduate school and remain committed to EOP's mission.

The next 40 years should be about continued access and expansion of services. We are a model program for retention and as such should be provided the resources to enhance and expand those services that facilitate student success.

Celebrating 40 years of EOP excellence means that EOP is effective and still a very much needed program that provides access and service to motivated and historically low income students to succeed in college and beyond.

Envisioning the next 40 years of EOP: EOP 2048 would emerge as an acknowledged and well resourced model CSU program of access, support, retention, and graduation of motivated and historically low income students.
