Family Support Services
Moylan,
Fall
2009
Project Description: The two main objectives for my students in their service learning activities are to learn how to work with families from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds, various economic levels, etc., and and to learn about services that are in place in the community to support families. Preference is given to placements that address more than one individual in a family, such as programs in family literacy that provide support for the parents, for the children, and for the parent and child relationship. Good matches for us in the past have been Even Start and Birth and Beyond.

Spring
2009
Project Description: Students at CSUS will work in groups to analyze specific discourse community projects completed by the partner class and respond in writing. The partner class will then respond and revise the original projects. Not only will this give CSUS students a chance to work collaboratively with peers in their own class, but also it will give them a chance to work collaboratively with peers at a distance, write for a very different audience, and engage students from a very different background in our college experience.
