Using organizational theories, students practice their application through case analyses, exercises, and discussion in class. Project Description: Community Service Learning presents a unique opportunity to develop a better self understanding of why one might choose social work as a field of study and discover where one could make a valuable contribution in the future as a professional, volunteer and citizen. It is an opportunity for students to explore the world of practice and find social work meaning in every day life. It also represents a significant part of the course grade. The assignments related to this experience are a written paper outlining their experience and a 10-15 minute oral presentation to the class.

Project Description: Service learning students will work with disabled students at Project R.I.D.E in groups and one-on-one to facilitate learning exercises generated by the instructors on how to ride horses. This will help promote a sense of well-being and confidence in the disabled students. Thus, service learning students will 1) become more comfortable around individuals with genetic abnormalities, 2) comprehend the range of manifestations exhibited by individuals with genetic abnormalities, and 3) understand the importance of contributing to our community.

Project Description: Sacramento State students will partner with International Students in the Office of Global Education to do service learning and cross-cultural activities together. They will have discussion on topics such as "Education in America and Around the World" and "Global Understanding." Our project supports learning outcome #3 (common to all Freshman Seminar sections): "students will gain an understanding and appreciation of the multicultural nature of society and this University." Our service learning project fosters international understanding, awareness of multicultural issues, and compassion and concern towards others.
