Project Description: We call this the "Readers Coach Writers" project. My students are on-line anonymous coaches for students in a sophomore English class at Encina High School. They respond to the students' writing and practice their skills in giving supportive feedback in writing (through a secure website) that is equivalent to what they would say if they were in a face to face setting. They are not tutors or editors, Instead they probe, paraphrase, summarize and question in order to elicit more vivid and precise thinking from the students. THe Encina students write three drafts of an essay. The coaches respond to each one, and as their last response to their partners they send their partners a sample of their own writing.
