Project Description: Through the service learning activities, students will meet the learning objectives of SW 95 as they will develop an awareness of the meaning of human diversity, oppression, social justice and advocacy within the social work profession. Further the students will identify their professional interest in the field of social work. Project Description: Students will provide 20 hours of hands-on experience with health promotion in the community. Through the service learning project, students will be exposed to different types of health and care issues, and will have the opportunity to apply concepts, theories, and issues learned in class. Projects can range from direct service to individuals and groups to indirect service through support for existing community projects. Areas of service may include, but are not limited to, nutrition, exercise, medical screening, smoking prevention and cessation, drug and alcohol education, stress-relief, bereavement, and social visits with chronically ill or elderly individuals. Particular emphasis will be paid to traditionally under-served populations.
