Project Description: This course is an introduction to the profession of social work and its roles in the social welfare system. This course will emphasize the need to help others through the use of service learning agencies. Students will begin to see how professionals in the social work field interface with marginalized populations such as people of color, physically and mentally challenged persons, women, and gay and lesbian persons to promote social justice and improved social welfare for all populations.

Project Description: CHDV 133 students will provide the organization a report that addresses specifical research questions designed by the community organization. The organization will use the outcome of the reports to make adjustments to their programs based on evidence. CHDV 133 students will be tasked with critiquing questionnaires, analyzing qualitative data collected by program staff, and writing up the results of the research study using APA style. Thus, students will engage in many steps that a professional researcher conducts.
