Project Description: Learn about racial/ethnic issues particular to highschool students in Sacramento. Focus on Latino issues.

Project Description: Designed to enhance student's knowledge of urban schooling, especially related to dynamics of race, class, and culture. Along with a Service Learning componenet in urban schools, provides anaysis of the following: historical, socioeconomic and political factos influencing urban education; the distribuion of opportunity in cities and their schools;and effective instructional organizational practices that close the achievement gap, including the development of positive school cultures adn the use of community resources.

Project Description: The learning objectives of the course involve professional development and exploration of career objectives specifically related to Child Development. Fieldwork placements are centered around community partners specifically related to children, adolescents, and families.

Project Description: Students in DNCE 160 gain experience teaching creative movement in public schools to enhance student learning. Students prepare lesson plans, coordinate with public school teachers, have a hands on experience teaching in classroom, which benefits both public school students and Sac State students. Students become advocates for the arts in education and understand Howard Gardner's multiple intelligences in a hands on way.

They also have an authentic audience and get practice in adjusting their writing to the knowledge and conventions expected from their audience.

Project Description: In addition to providing writing practice, and improving their confidence as communicators, Writing Partners @ Sac State helps students understand varied rhetorical situations.

Project Description: By particpating in Service Learning, students in this course will have the opportunity to apply concepts and theories learned in class to "real world" settings. In particulare, students will have the opportunity to analyze how social inequality processes impact the educational conditions of students who attend local, underserved schools. Service Learning students will also have the opportunity to provide invaluable service to a local community.
